De VE883 is een op glasvezeloptiek gebaseerde extender ontworpen voor het verlengen van niet-gecomprimeerde 4K-signalen tot 300 m (met de VE883K1) of 10 km (met de VE883K2) over duplex glasvezelkabels. De VE883 voldoet aan de HDMI-specificaties, waaronder 3D, Deep Color (tot 12 bit), en signaalsnelheden (tot 10,2 Gb) om voor een superieure videokwaliteit te zorgen. Met ATEN’s exclusieve FarSmooth-technologie voorkomt de VE883 vertraging en bevriezen door de uitvoerfrequentie aan te passen aan de invoerfrequenties en het zorgt voor een stabiele en vloeiende videoweergave die identiek is aan de bron, met name bij toepassingen over lange afstanden waar ononderbroken video streams vereist zijn. De VE883 beschikt over een HDMI-ingang en -uitgang, een ingang en uitgang voor analoge audio, USB2.0, IR, RS-232 besturingspoort en een Gigabit Ethernetpoort. Voor punt naar punt-uitbreidingen kan de VE883 gebruik maken van glasvezelkabels door SFP+ modules in de optische poort te steken.
